Modeling of Coupled Thermomechanical Phenomena
SM06

Description
Objectives:
In the design of mechanical systems, engineers must size components subjected to complex thermal
and mechanical loadings. It is therefore essential to master, on the one hand, the formulation
of the governing equations describing material behavior while accounting for thermomechanical
couplings, and, on the other hand, to understand how these models are implemented in industrial computational codes.

Programme:
  • Overview of material behavior modeling frameworks and schemes, together with their main underlying assumptions.
  • Continuum mechanics in the small-strain regime: conservation laws, fundamentals of continuum thermodynamics, state variables, and the local state method.
  • Application to the modeling of thermo-elasto-(visco)plastic behavior of solids.
  • Coupled modeling of mechanical behavior and ductile damage for the description and prediction of ductile fracture.
  • Time discretization of constitutive equations using appropriate integration schemes.
  • Development of constitutive integration algorithms with a view to their implementation in industrial finite element codes
