Hydraulics
CIV_224

Description
The course aims to provide students with the necessary fluid mechanics knowledge to understand and solve fluid static and fluid movement problems in conduits.
Upon successful completion of the course students are expected to be able to:
1. analyze static fluid problems by applying the principle of transport containers and the law of hydrostatics
2. understand the hydrostatic force as an example of linear load and calculate the force and center of pressure on flat and curved surfaces in liquids
3. Understand the concepts of static and dynamic pressure, and the methodology of applying the Bernoulli equation and continuity equation to simple hydraulic fluid flow problems in conduits
4. to know the physical significance of viscosity, to understand Poisseuille law and to analyze its effects on simple hydraulic problems
5. understand the classification of flows into laminates and turbulence based on their physical characteristics and Reynolds number - analyze flow problems in closed conduits with linear losses
