Description
The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the concepts and methods of Mechanics with emphasis on problem analysis through infinite calculus and the physical interpretation of results.
On successful completion of the module, students are expected to:   1) Analyze the physical and physical relationship of position, speed and acceleration to general motion in the plane, using unobtrusive and vector calculus, 2) Recognize the internal and external forces exerted on a body / system, including inertial forces if the reference system is accelerated, and apply Newton's laws to its analysis, using the free body diagram, 3) understand the difference between conservative and non-conservative forces and recognize when and how to use the energy-theorem and conserve mechanical energy in solving engineering problems; 4) understand the physical significance of inertia and torque, calculate moments of inertia in simple flat shapes, and be able to analyze problems of static and rotational motion of a solid body; 5) recognize and analyze harmonic motion in mechanical oscillation of different physical systems.
