UNIT 1.- ENERGY THEOREMS AND STATICALLY INDETERMINATE STRUCTURES
THEME 1. ENERGY THEOREMS: Elastic potential energy. Clapeyron's Theorem. Work of internal forces. Reciprocity theorem. Castigliano's Theorem.

THEME 2. STATICALLY INDETERMINATE (HYPERSTATIC) STRUCTURES: Degree of hyperstaticity. Force Method.

UNIT II.- ELASTICITY
THEME 3. ELASTICITY. LINEAR STRESS ANALYSIS: Introduction. Components of the stress vector in cartesian coordinates surfaces. Components of the stress vector in any surface. Normal and shear stresses components of the stress vector. Mohr¿s Circle. Principal stresses and stress invariants.

THEME 4. ELASTICITY. DEFORMATION ANALYSIS: Concept of deformation. Analogy between strain and stress models. Material behavior.

THEME 5. THE LINEAR ELASTICITY PROBLEM: Internal equilibrium. Boundary equilibrium. Compatibility equations. Fundamental equations of elasticity. Plane stress and plane strain. Elasticity limit (elastic domain). Material failure criteria.

UNIT III.- ENLARGEMENT OF STRESS DISTRIBUTION OVER THE CROSS-SECTION
THEME 6. BENDING - ENLARGEMENT OF CONTENTS: Introduction. Normal and shear stress in symmetric cross-section. Stress in curved structural elements. Plastic bending. Non-Symmetric cross-section. Thin walled beams. Shear center. Stress concentration in bending.

THEME 7. TORSION: Introduction. Torsion of circular cross-sections. Torsion of non-circular cross-sections. Stress concentration in torsion.

THEME 8. BUCKLING: Introduction. Static equilibrium stability. Critical buckling load. Design of compression members (Column Buckling).
