Engineering Problem Solving
RP01

Description
Objectives:
This course aims to develop students’ ability to solve engineering problems using a rigorous scientific approach. It focuses on both methodology and practical implementation, helping students acquire transferable problem-solving skills.

Main learning outcomes and topics include:

Applying a scientific methodology to analyze and solve engineering problems
- Analyzing a problem: key questions, planning and execution of actions
- Building and exploiting models: definition of the framework, assumptions, and limitations
- Identifying input data: variables, endogenous and exogenous parameters
- Numerical problem solving using computational tools such as Octave and Maxima

Interpreting and discussing numerical results
- Studying parameter influence and performing sensitivity analyses
- Presenting problem-solving approaches and engaging in technical discussions and debates
- Formulating an engineering problem and proposing solution strategies

The course encourages critical thinking, structured reasoning, and constructive debate, preparing students for advanced engineering studies and professional practice.
