Description
This module explores the key enabling technologies and application areas of wearable technology and design.

Introduction & Key Applications | Classification of different wearable devices - assistive, healthcare, workplace and consumer. Implantable, patchable, smart textiles, fabric and accessory based devices.

Wearable Device Technologies | Overview of the generic components of a wearable device. Sensors, operating systems, processing unit, battery technology, wireless connectivity unit, displays and user interfaces, data mining and intelligence. Case study analysis of the components and performance in popular devices.

Design Considerations | Durability, reliability, usability, aesthetics, washability, compatibility, comfort, safety, power, security and maintenance. Materials selection and safety considerations for different classes of devices.

Security, Privacy and Ethics | Security and privacy concerns in digital technology and data regulations. Product case study examples.

Sustainability | Critically evaluate the future potential of sustainable materials in wearable technology and their contribution to the environment and economy. This includes understanding the ongoing advancements in material science and their potential to address sustainability challenges in the wearable technology industry.

App Development for Wearable Devices | Overview of the considerations for app development for wearable devices. Interface design. Connecting to the cloud.
