Digital Electronics
EENG H1013

Description
This module introduces the learner to digital electronics, by focusing on the understanding and application of its principles and the technological processes in engineering design, service, and systems.

Boolean Functions and digital families: Logic operators: and, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR; Truth tables, theorems, DeMorgan's Laws, Simplification of logic circuits using Karnaugh Maps; Implementation of logic functions using standard gates. TTL and subfamilies CMOS characteristics, threshold operating conditions. Speed of operation and limitations.

Decoders, Adders, Encoders and Multiplexers: BCD to decimal decoder; BCD to seven segment decoders and drivers. Decimal to BCD Encoder. Data selectors as digital data multiplexers. Adder, Demultiplexers, Multiplexed displays.

Flip-Flops and Counters: Basic S.R. flip-flops constructed from basic gates and applications as switch de-bounce circuits. Clocked logic such as J.K. flip-flops. Edge-triggered flip-flops. Ripple counters, delay calculations, problem encountered using ripple counters.

Fault Diagnostics: Methods and tools used to diagnose faults in IC circuits
