The aim of the group project is to prepare students to work in project teams and integrate technical knowledge in design, processes and materials with the soft skills required for effective teamwork. A further aim is the development of creative problem solving skills. The aim of the Environmental Technology section is make students aware of the need for consideration of environmental matters with regard to project work.
Teamwork principles: Stages of team development, roles and responsibilities, effective meetings, communications, record keeping, decision making, conflict resolution.
Problem solving: Creative problem solving, concept development, concept improvement, evaluation and selection.
Project management: Scope statement, work breakdown structure, project schedule. Manage project to a project plan and revise as necessary.
Research methodologies: Library search, web searching, supplier data. Component sourcing and pricing.
Design process: Concept sketching, identification of critical design parameters, models & drawings, documentation control, assembly drawings, bill of materials.
Model development and evaluation.
Report: Report writing
Presentation: Project presentation and demonstration.
Environment: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Industry and environment relationship, Efficiency, Complying with environmental legislation.
