Electronic Applications in Healthcare

Description
This module aims equip the student to combine sub-assemblies to design bio-electronic instrument and devices in compliance with the appropriate electrical safety regime to be used in bio-medical systems so as to ensure the safety of users and clinical staff.

Electrical Safety: Physiological effects of electricity, Earthing, macros-hock, micro-shock, isolation, line isolation monitor, grounding, protection devices, EMI, Classification of medical equipment, Standards and codes.

Bio-medical sensors: Biomedical sensor characteristics, driven bridges, signal-conditioning amplifiers, instrumentation and isolation amplifiers.

Electrophysiology measurement: Physiological source of biopotentials, Surface and fine wire electrodes, electrode application and arrangements. Acquisition and analysis of ECG, EMG, EEG signals.

Data Acquisition: Data acquisition, sampling theory, Digital signal processing, Noise and interference reduction techniques.

Electrostimulation: Muscular electrostimulation, pacemakers, Brain stimulation

Biosensors: Biosensors systems, electrical sensing, mechanical sensing, optical sensing.

Wearable sensors: Applications, communications, remote sensing, body sensor networks, data security.
