Students are required to undertake a major project within the area of mechanical engineering. This involves working independently, under supervision, in order to gain experience of integrating and applying different elements encountered in the various modules of the course to find solutions for mechanical engineering problems.
Project Scope: Define project objectives. Breakdown tasks into appropriate parts or stages. Formulate a plan of action
Project Planning/Management: Formulate, implement and review a plan of action. Work consistently to plan, modifying, and adapting where necessary and completing to deadline. Record activities in a log book.
Literature survey: Identify and use a variety of techniques to obtain information (including standard research and electronic retrieval methods) and tackle problems appropriate to the tasks. Conduct and present a literature survey appropriate to the subject matter.
Formulate a technical report: Formulate a written technical report. Defend material/process choices as relevant. Utilise codes of paractice, legislation, regulations as appropriate. Apply the principles of experimental design. Review results versus original objectives, draw conclusions supported by evidence.
Oral Presentation: Present to internal and external examiners, prepare and present a poster.
