This module will involve Students both working both independently and in teams, to gain experience integrating and applying different bio-medical device elements encountered across various course modules. Students will be required to undertake a series of team based case studies focused on different medical devices. Each team will be assigned a particular device, one Student assigned a lead role, with individual Student participation encompassing a different perspective role. (i.e. Design, Manufacture, Approvals, Materials, and Ethics). The team will produce a summary report for their assigned device. Following these case studies the Student will be assigned a different medical device and will produce a final project report where the Student builds upon the Team experiences and applies these skills independently.
Project Scope: Define project objectives. Breakdown tasks into appropriate parts or stages. Formulate a plan of action
Project Planning/Management: Formulate, implement and review a plan of action. Work consistently to plan, modifying, and adapting where necessary and completing to deadline. Record activities in a log book.
Literature survey: Identify and use a variety of techniques to obtain information (including standard research and electronic retrieval methods) and tackle problems appropriate to the tasks. Conduct and present a literature survey appropriate to the subject matter.
Formulate a technical report: Formulate a written technical report. Defend material/process choices as relevant. Utilise codes of practice, legislation, regulations as appropriate. Apply the principles of experimental design. Review results versus original objectives, draw conclusions supported by evidence.
