Introduction to engineering approaches for sustainable developments
183555

Description
Engineering students can identify and describe the risks, contradictions and malicious problems of sustainable development as an engineering task. To this end, they are introduced to the Earth system with selected material flows from a technical perspective and learn about non-linear relationships and dynamic, sudden changes. They understand and question engineering ethics as well as the importance and difficulty of interdisciplinary cooperation. Based on technical solutions to individual United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the focus of learning will be on opportunities, limitations, conflicts and risks. In small interdisciplinary groups, students analyse and discuss the dilemmas, contradictions, conflicting goals and disputes arising from technical issues.
The topics may include energy and water, or the finiteness of resources and constant growth, which are related in terms of content but also contradictory.
