As part of the module, forms for supporting structures are to be developed in the form of group work. Through their daily experiences, everyone develops a feeling for supporting structures without having concretised this for themselves. Example: A tree bends in the wind without being torn from its “foundation”. The taller the tree and the larger the crown, the larger its foundation (the roots) must be. This often unconscious knowledge about supporting structures is to be brought to consciousness through the construction of a supporting structure model in teamwork. Depending on the task (e.g. bridge, tower, etc.), different supporting structure models are to be developed, examined and discussed in the group. Subsequently, a scale model is to be built from the selected materials.
This model is subjected to a load test. The quality of the structural model is determined by its design, the reduced use of materials and the maximum experimental load-bearing capacity. The module is based on the findings of everyday human experience and is interdisciplinary.
