Course Content (translated):

  • Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment, renewable energy communities, and climate finance tools.
  • Energy storage and the various applicable technologies.
  • Characteristics and potential of hydrogen as an energy carrier and storage medium.
  • Electricity generation from renewable energy sources:

    • Concentrated Solar Power (parabolic trough systems, solar towers, parabolic dish systems);
    • Photovoltaic systems;
    • Wind systems;
    • Hydropower and mini-hydro plants.

  • Electricity generation from fissile material.
  • Hydrogen production from renewable sources:

    • Electrolytic production;
    • Thermochemical production;
    • Photochemical and photosynthetic production.

  • Low or near-zero emission conversion technologies:

    • Hydrogen production from fossil sources through reforming and gasification;
    • Syngas purification and carbon dioxide capture.

  • Technologies for the energy use of biomass and urban/industrial solid waste.
  • Hydrogen utilization technologies:

    • Power-to-fuel;
    • Use of hydrogen in internal combustion engines;
    • Systems based on direct steam generators;
    • Fuel cells for stationary, portable, and transport applications;
    • Hybrid FC-TG systems (Fuel Cell–Gas Turbine).

  • Use of the Aspen thermochemical simulation software.
