Review of Measurement Theory:
  • Errors and uncertainties;
  • Review of estimation and propagation of uncertainties.

Temperature Measurement:
  • Radiation thermometry;
  • Measurement principle and exercises.

Pressure Measurement:
  • Pressure scales and main sensors;
  • Primary methods (pressure balances).

  • Elements of Fluid Dynamics.
    • Flow in ducts;
    • Introduction to flow measurements.

  • Pressure and Velocity Measurements in Fluids:
    • Differential pressure and volumetric flowmeters;
    • Ultrasonic, vortex, and magnetic flowmeters;
    • Limitations and applications.

  • Mass Measurement:
    • Measurement principles and exercises;
    • Mass standards and balances.

  • Force and Torque Measurement:
    • Measurement principles and exercises;
    • Universal dynamometric machines and torque meters.

  • Thermal Comfort, Theory and exercises;

  • Certification of Measuring Instruments (MID Directive):
    • New approach and performance and management requirements for the approval of legally relevant measuring instruments;
    • Periodic verifications and comparison with legal limits.

  • Regulatory Context for the Management of Measuring Instruments in Quality Assurance:
    • ISO 9001, ISO 17025 (laboratories), and ISO 16949 (automotive sector) standards.

  • Calibration of Measuring, Control, and Testing Instruments:
    • Tolerance and measurement uncertainty: choice of instrumentation;
    • Compliance with specifications: ISO 14253 standard;
    • The role of measurement uncertainty in final testing.

  • Practical Calibration Exercises of Measuring Instruments:
    • Dimensional calipers, industrial thermometers, pressure gauges, balances;
    • Calibration planning, collection of experimental data, processing and presentation of results;
    • Validation of calibration results;
    • Legal Metrology and Industrial Metrology.
