The course aims to provide an organic framework of basic knowledge useful for framing and understanding the banking reality in the economic context of the Italian financial system, with the necessary references also to the international system. Banking activity and banks are examined both from a technical point of view (financial/credit operations and instruments) in the various areas of operation, and from the management and managerial perspectives in relation to the most relevant management issues, with particular regard to strategic and organizational aspects, the various risk configurations, and economic, financial, and patrimonial equilibrium conditions. A specific study is dedicated to the set of controls and rules, in particular those known as supervision, which are imposed by regulatory authorities and which heavily influence the management of banking companies.
