Human Capital Economics

Description
The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge relating to economic theory and empirical analysis tools relating to human capital. The expected learning outcomes consist of the learners' development of:
I) adequate knowledge and understanding of the main human capital analysis models;
II) ability to apply the tools adequately with respect to the research objectives;
III) ability to process, summarize and present information and results; 
IV) ability to use the technical language specific to the discipline to communicate clearly with specialist and non-specialist interlocutors.

  • definition and role of human capital in the economy;
  • the relationship of human capital with people's well-being;
  • the mechanisms of human capital formation (Gary Becker model);
  • the training of cognitive and non-cognitive skills in the family environment and in pre-primary education (James Heckman);
  • Education and human capital;
  • Selection and training of workers;
  • Incentive remuneration systems; 
  • Skilled work and over-education;
  • New professions and skills, the impact of AI.
