The aims of the course are to provide students with the knowledge needed for the dimensioning of shallow and deep foundations as well as the dimensioning of retaining walls in accordance with the requirements of the Eurocode 7.
1. Introduction to the Foundation Engineering.
2. Introduction to Eurocode 7 (requirements, characteristic and design values).
3. Shallow foundations – Isolated footing, spread footing, raft footing, connecting beams. (Study and design against ultimate and serviceability limits, ultimate bearing capacity, settlement, special cases.)
4. Deep foundations (analysis of axial loaded pile. Effect of negative friction force. Axial tensile loaded piles. Horizontal loading of short and long piles. Pile group).5. Retaining walls. - Crédits ECTS
