Description
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: At the end of the course, the students are expected to be able to analyze and design basic digital and mixed-signal (analog and digital) electronic modules and systems, as well as design some basic types of power supplies, that includes in the structure linear or switched mode of operation regulators.
DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The main topics concern: Basic logic functions and Logic families; circuit implementations of the basic functions (Resistor-Transistor Logic (RTL); Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL); Open-Collector outputs; Complementary MOS Logic (CMOS) and Basic CMOS gates); Combinatorial circuits; Sequential logic systems; Visual displays; Latching circuits (Basic definitions and concepts; Bistable Circuits (Schmitt trigger, One-shot time circuits); Multivibrator circuits (basic circuits, multivibrators using Schmitt trigger); Quartz Crystal Oscillators (electrical characteristics of quartz crystals, Fundamentals of quartz crystal oscillators, Integrated Quartz Crystal Oscillators); Sampling theorem or Nyquist Theorem; Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs); Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs); Sample-and-Hold (S/H) circuits; Direct Digital Synthesis – DDS (Principle of the method for direct digital synthesis of analog signals, Block diagram of DDS function generator with Numerically Controlled Oscillator (NCO) and commercially available monolithic DDS generators); Phase Locked Loop (PLL) and applications (FM demodulator; frequency synthesizers based on PLL); Power supplies; Semiconductor memories (Basic definitions and concepts; Table memories (Random Access Memories (RAMs) – static RAMs and dynamic RAMs, Read-Only Memories (ROMs) – Mask-Programmed ROMs (MROMs), Programmable ROMs (PROMs), UV-Erasable PROMs (EPROMs) and Electrically Erasable PROMs (EEPROMs)) and Function memories (Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs) and User Programmable Gate Arrays).
