Mechanics and Testing of Materials

Description
 General principles of deformable bodies mechanics. Concept of stress and strain. Design of connections, rods, trusses. Displacements, normal and shear strain. Mechanical properties of materials. Axial loading. St. Venant theory. Stress-strain relations. Superposition principle. Statically indeterminate problems. Thermal stresses. Stress concentrations. Torsion of cylindrical shafts. Pure and combined bending. Determination of normal and shears stresses, displacements and elastic line. Combined loading. Generalized Hooke’s law. Stress and strain transformation. Mohr circle. Laboratory exercises: Strain Gauges, Uniaxial tension test, Bending test, Torsion test, Thin cylindrical pressure vessel.
