Metallurgy

Description
Microstructure of metals. Mechanical behaviour of metals: tensile test; hardness tests; notch toughness test (Charpy); fracture toughness tests; Wohler fatigue strength; fatigue crack propagation; creep. Non-destructive testing of metal artefacts. Phase diagrams; Fe-C and Fe-Fe3C diagrams; TTT and CCT diagrams; pearlitic, bainitic and martensitic transformations. Heat treatments at temperatures above transformation temperatures: annealing; normalising; hardening, and quenching (Jominy test); Thermochemical diffusion treatments: Nitriding and carburizing. Influence of chemical elements in steels. Classification and designation of steels. Cast irons. Aluminium alloys and heat treatments.
