1. General consideration. Vectors, matrices and tensors. 
2. Stress and strain, Hooke’s law, transformation matrices using the tensor notation. Deformation gradient, rotation matrix – application in FEM. 
3. Small scale and Green strains. Principal, hydrostatic and deviatoric strains. True Strain.  
4. Principal stresses (Mohr’s circle), hydrostatic and deviatoric stresses. Yield state theories. Von Mises, Tresca stresses. True stress. 
5. General consideration of fracture mechanics. Airy stress functions, complex numbers. 
6. Stress concentrations at holes. 
7. Griffith's critical energy release rate. Westergaard's solution for cracks. The stress intensity factor K.
