Architectural Design Studio 8
ARCH4107

Description
Architectural Design Studio VIII directs students to engage with the issue of living (multi-dwelling) in a
designated context integrating their work into a coherent masterplan and ecosystem. The module places an
emphasis on the integration of strategies across all scales to reduce carbon emissions and to respond to the
climate crisis at the level of domestic and communal. Underpinning each students’ design will be an
understanding of the influence of their tectonic and structural solution on the haptic nature of the spaces (both
domestic and shared) they propose. Students will design with (the seven) Universal Design Principles
incorporated into their design demonstrating best practice in their design.
Through a combination of self directed learning and group engagement students will research and design
architecture from first principles using structure, materials, construction methods and environmental design
techniques that will address directly and project beyond current legislative requirements to meet the following
Sustainable Development Goals GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, GOAL 12: Responsible
Consumption and Production.
