Architectural Design Studio 7
ARCH4106

Description
The Architectural Design Studio VII module engages with strategic design issues at both a territorial and architectural scale whilst requiring students to adopt a critical architectural position in relation to climate action and the zero carbon imperative. .
Through individual and collaborative group processes students will research a given territory (region, town or neighbourhood) and engage with other built environment disciplines and community partners to develop innovative and sustainable urban design strategies. Students will explore through these design projects the interrelationship of built form, infrastructural networks, open space and natural systems and the impact on sustainable place making. The challenge of dealing with the existing built environment as an important resource underpins the studio with principles of adaptive reuse prioritised in individual studio design projects.
The module emphasises the impact of interconnected and innovative infrastructures such as energy, waste, transport and industry on the making of sustainable architectural and urban design proposals and seeks in particular to address the objectives established in Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 9 (Industry Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action)
