Objectives:
Structural mechanics concerns the study of the behaviour of deformable solid bodies subjected to loading. It is used to assess the capacity of the body to withstand the load. This introductory course is limited to the case of beam-shaped structures subjected to small perturbations under the effect of loads. At the end of this course, the student will be able to master the basic concepts of deformations and stresses and will be able to check and/or dimension a structure made up of one or more beams.
Program:
- Master the statics of structures and systems
- Be able to determine the maximum mechanical stresses and displacements induced by external forces applied to a structure
- Be able to identify and solve the equilibrium and deformations of hyperstatic structures
- Be able to dimension and/or check a structure subject to buckling
- Be able to self-evaluate via the results of the MCQs for continuous assessment
