Solid Modelling 2
SMOD H2000

Description
This module aims to enable the student to communicate component part information in a technical situation. The student will be able to create three dimensional CAD models, interrogate a model history tree and subsequently generate two dimensional drawing layouts with geometric dimensions.

Design process: Design process model, capturing design intent, product data life cycles, team based design, sharing model data, incorporating catalog data.

Advanced Modelling Concepts: Advanced component creation, using parametric constraints, modifying history mechanisms. modelling efficiency techniques: feature reuse - identifying and generating user defined features. Sourcing supplier data - catalog. Extraction of mass properties, inertial properties

Datum Features: Datum features including: coordinate systems, points, axes and planes. Datum hierarchies, combining points axes and planes - offset parallel, normal and inclined. Datum curves, through points, end conditions - free, tangent, normal.

Surface Modelling: Complex surface generation features such as Sweep. blend, style feature, and freeform. Defining curve trajectories, blend sections and end condition tangencies. Modification of surface features, Integration of surfacing with Solid modelling.

Assembly Modelling: Component instances, product hierarchies, assembly constraint relationships. assembly modelling conventions - top down, bottom up, interference checking, intelligent fasteners, creation of exploded views, assembly mechanism relationship. Drawing layouts, bills of materials balloon referencing.

Equation based design: Defining model parameters, setting data types & units, embedding design relations into assemblies, parts, features and sections. Modifying driving parameters, generating new part variants, family tables. Incorporating design relations into surfacing features based on the trajectory parameter.

Concurrent Engineering: Information exchange across departments: collaborative workgroups, data sharing, cross-functional teams, rapid prototyping: design validation, data exchange; IGES, STEP, STL.
