Structural Analysis I
CIV_223

Description
To provide a basic understanding of the theory as well as the applications of the foundational principles of determinate structures.

Upon successful completion of the course students are expected to be able to recognize the need for application of statics.
Students are also expected to be able to determine the internal forces as well as the displacements of the determine structures.

Analysis of Statically Determinate Structures. Principles of Superposition. Application of the Equations of the Equilibrium. Analysis of Statically of Joints. The Method of Sections. Zero-Force Members. Internal Loadings Developed in Structural Members. Shear and Moment Diagrams for a Beam/Frame. Influence Lines for Statically Determinate Structures. Deflection. The Double Integration Method. Moment- Area Theorems. Deflections Using Energy Methods. Virtual Work for beams and trusses. Castigliano’s Theorem for beams and trusses.
