Construction Materials
CIV_221

Description
The module aims to provide students with the theoretical and objective knowledge related to the selection and / or design of the most appropriate construction material based on the material physical & mechanical properties and the requirements of each structure and/or construction project, the selection of appropriate experimental methods for the study of the mechanical properties of construction materials, and the application of scientific knowledge to civil engineering problems.
Upon successful completion of the module, students are expected to be able to identify the different types of construction materials, describe methods applied to produce construction materials and explain the physico-mechanical properties of construction materials. Students are also expected to be able to calculate the physico-mechanical properties of construction materials and to define the specifications of construction materials used in different Civil Engineering projects.
