Engineering Mechanics – Statics
CIV_116

Description
The module aims to introduce statics and equilibrium concepts through lectures and problem-based learning in order for students to be able to analyse simple linear structures in plane and in space.

To recognize basic principles of equilibrium in solid bodies in plane and in space and to be able to calculate the static (in)determinancy

To analyse statically determinate elastic structures in plane and in space

To calculate the stress resultants (internal forces/moments) in such structures and draw axial/shear force and bending/twisting moment diagrams
To recognize constitutive laws of typical civil engineering materials and calculate averages normal and shear stress/strain
