UNIT I. INTRODUCTION TO SANITARY ENGINEERING AND SANITATION SYSTEMS
TOPIC 1. INTRODUCTION TO SANITARY ENGINEERING. DEFINITION AND ELEMENTS THAT MAKE UP SANITATION SYSTEMS. 
Historical evolution, competences in sanitary engineering. Application regulations. Integration within the integral water cycle. Parts that make up a sanitation system. Typologies. Use and operation of each part and the forms they usually take. Sustainable Urban Drainage Techniques (TEDUS).

UNIT II. HYDRAULICS OF SEWERAGE SYSTEMS
TOPIC 2. DETERMINATION OF THE CALCULATION FLOW RATES IN RAINY AND DRY WEATHER. URBAN HYDROLOGY. POLLUTANT LOADS ASSOCIATED WITH WASTEWATER. 
Distribution of flow rates in dry and rainy weather. Dry weather curves. Calculation of design hydrographs associated with return periods. Calculation of urban runoff hydrographs. Pollutant loads associated with wastewater in dry and rainy weather. Distinction between separative and unitary networks.
TOPIC 3. HYDRAULICS OF SEWERAGE SYSTEMS. 
Methods of calculating free sheet flow in sewerage networks. Urban collection systems of the scupper type. Regulation elements in sewerage networks. Lamination tanks. Calculation of head losses in singular points of sewerage networks and with application to wastewater treatment plants. Piezometric line of a WWTP.

UNIT III. DECONTAMINATION PROCESSES AND THEIR CALCULATION IN URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS AND DRAINAGE SYSTEMS.
TOPIC 4. THEORY OF PROCESSES IN URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS: PHYSICAL, BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL. 
Roughing. Desanding. Degreasing. Sedimentation. Biological processes for the elimination of organic matter and nutrients. Flocculation. Coagulation. Filtration. Chlorination
TOPIC 5. INTRODUCTION TO THE CALCULATION AND DEFINITION OF AN URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT. 
Pre-treatment. Primary Treatment. Secondary Treatment. Disinfection by means of chlorine.
