This module builds on foundational design skills developed in the year one module Creative Design & Communication 1, enabling students to express original concepts through sketching, model-making, and a variety of visual media. Learners will engage with real-life design challenges, applying structured design processes, project planning, and creative thinking to develop and communicate product ideas. Emphasis is placed on the integration of anthropometric and ergonomic principles in design, as well as the development of collaborative and self-directed learning skills. Students will enhance their ability to interpret design briefs and communicate concepts effectively through visual and physical prototypes.
Design Communications: Creative Expression, objective and subjective drawing, externalising concepts, introduction to media for making, visualisation, mark-making, 3-D modelling, understanding and application of materials, composition, balance and proportion, symmetry and asymmetry, understanding briefings.
Advanced Form: Application of geometric and natural forms, the visual properties of form, the articulation of form.
Advanced Construction: Application of tension and compression, relationship between materials and structure, intuitive appreciation of materials.
Design Process: Interpreting of design briefs. Understanding and applying design processes to solve real-life design problems through project work and project planning.
