In this module, learners will undertake a studio design project on a known medical device. They will be introduced to the device' intended use and purpose, anatomical or physiological function and identify constraints that apply. Learners will implement a design change for an element of the existing design and assess this change in terms of the efficacy and safety of the device. They will evaluate the proposed design change using tools and methodologies, such as non clinical bench testing, computational and analytical approaches and traditional engineering materials testing. This mirrors industry approaches and the learner will submit a technical report verifying the new design.
