Electrical and Electronic Fundamentals
BIOM H1004

Description
The aim of this module is to introduce and apply the laws used in DC circuit analysis, provide a base for AC theory and to introduce the student to the basic components of electrical and electronic circuits that will provide a solid foundation for further study.

Circuit Building:                      Schematic circuit symbols and converting a schematic circuit into a physical circuit. Electric field and voltage applied to metal wires and resistive elements. Flow of electricity in circuits.

Circuit Theory:                         Charge, current, voltage and power. Resistors, capacitors and inductors. Ohms law, Kirchoff's laws, simplifing circuits.  Functional operation of resistors, inductors and capacitors: theory behind how they work. Circuit laws

Electronic Components:           Operation of LEDs, Transistors, BJT and Mosfets, operational amplifiers. Circuit application of each. Scientific principles underlying diodes, LEDs, transistors and Operational amplifiers

Alternating Current:                  Properties of sinewaves, RMS, phase shift and frequency. Waveforms in AC: Amplitude, phase shift, RMS, frequency and period

Alternating current circuits:      Effect of Resistors, capacitors and inductors in AC circuits. Power and phase shift.
