The subjects of this module are the fundamentals of three-dimensional design with an emphasis on encouraging individual creativity. Throughout the semester, students work on a series of projects. As well as the practical exercises there may be demonstrations, lectures, student presentations and student/lecturer critiques sessions during class time. In addition there will be an emphasis on both individual and group communication.
Design Communications: Creative Expression, objective and subjective drawing, externalising concepts, introduction to media for making, visualisation, mark-making, 3-D modelling, understanding and application of materials, composition, balance and proportion, symmetry and asymmetry, understanding briefings.
Basic Form: The vocabulary of geometric and natural forms, the visual properties of form, the articulation of form.
Basic Construction: Principles of tension and compression, relationship between materials and structure, intuitive appreciation of materials.
