Electrical Systems & Networks
ELNT H2002

Description
This module demonstrates to the student where the basic principles of electro-magnetism translate into industrial actuators such as DC motors, AC motors and Stepper motors. This module will apply knowledge of the National Rules for Electrical Installations to allow the graduate to work safely with electrical panels. Finally the module aims to equip students with the ability to read and understand drawings of electrical installations and hence communicate with other professional engineers.

Regulations and Standards: Safety Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 1993 (S.I. No. 44 of 1993) Part VII ‘ Electricity’. British and European Standards. National Rules for Electrical Installations (ETCI Regulations).

Three Phase Supply: Prime Movers, Electrical Grid, Renewable Issues. Transmission and Distribution. Industrial Supply Systems. Charges. Power Factor Correction

Electrical Installations and Safety Systems: L.V. Distribution. Design of final sub-circuits. Control panel design, IP ratings. Fuses Circuit Breakers. RCDs. Positioning of protective equipment. Disconnect time calculations. Discrimination.
