Renewable Energy Systems (Wind)

Description
This module aims to equip students to evaluate wind energy systems as alternative sources of energy.

Wind energy technology; Aerodynamics, rotor types, components and operational characteristics, main design features, rotor materials, transmission system, generator, braking system. Operational characteristics; power performance, availability, annual energy calculation, array efficiency. Project Assessment, economic assessment, planning, environmental and social issues, Utility- connected wind turbines

Solar energy technology including materials: Solar with reference to small micro systems and calculation on same

Biomass energy technology; Bio energy for small/medium scale application

Hydro power systems: This is with particular reference to micro hydro and design of structures and calculations in the same. Losses in pipes, etc
