Process Heating
HEAT H2001

Description
Upon completion of this module students will be able to use their knowledge of industrial process heating systems and components to the carry out a thermodynamic analysis of these systems.

Heat Loss calculations: valuation of 'U' values and overall heat loss from buildings. Hot water requirements and sizing calculations. Degress days and the calculation of annual heating demand

Space heating systems: Layout and functioning of domestic and commercial space heating systems. Hot water, air and radiant type systems. Components of space heating systems, boilers, pumps, valves, and other fittings. Heat emitters: radiators, convectors both natural draught and forced draught, heated floors, walls and other surfaces calorifiers and hot water production

Heating system calculations: Selection and sizing of of heat emitters, boilers, pumps and distribution piping.

Steam process plant: Layout and functioning of same. Elements of process steam plant, boilers, pipe-work, heat exchangers, steam trapping and condensate recovery. Safety and maintenance issues, water treatment, blow-down and statutory inspections. Efficient operation of process steam plant

Combustion: Boilers and combustion equipment for oil, gas and solid fuels in detail. Calorific value of fuels, combustion calculations, products of combustion and energy balances for boilers
