Description
This module aims to equip students with an understanding of the renewable energy technology and its potential to generate a significant portion of Europe’s total energy

Hydro power technology introduction: Location of large scale generation facilities, small scale hydro and micro generation potential. Economics associated with hydro power.

Solar power technology introduction: Location of large scale facilities, domestic systems, solar power economics.

Wind power technology: Wind characteristics, atmospheric boundary layer, wind statistics, energy in the wind, conversion of wind energy, location of large generation farms, wind maps, wind energy status and prospects, potential location for future wind farms in Europe. Wind energy economics.

Biomass technology introduction: Biomass potential, economics

Geothermal technology introduction: Geothermal maps, large and small scale, economics, future potential.

Emerging technologies: Wave power, tidal power, future potential

Renewable Energy in Business & Industry, renewable energy policy: Introduction, economics of producing electricity from fossil fuels and renewable sources, advantages and disadvantages from a global perspective.
