Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Engineering Design (TEDS semester module IV)
BM0981

Description
This course introduces the principles of sustainability and social responsibility with a specific focus on
engineering design. Students explore the interconnected dimensions of environmental impact, economic fairness,
ethical responsibility, and social inclusion—particularly in the context of assistive technology. Emphasis is
placed on sustainable material selection, circularity, design for accessibility, and the global equity implications of
engineering solutions. The course equips students with practical tools for evaluating sustainability trade-offs and
encourages reflective thinking on the engineer’s role in building inclusive, equitable societies.
