As the global food system evolves, food law plays a critical role in ensuring consumer protection, supporting innovation, and enabling fair trade. With growing public concern around food safety, fraud, and sustainability, understanding food legislation has become essential for food professionals.
This course provides an overview of food law across EU, national, and international levels, from production to market. It explores how legal frameworks safeguard food safety and quality, and how institutions like EFSA and Codex shape regulatory practices. Students will examine the implications of current legal trends—such as the European Green Deal and UN SDGs—and gain practical experience in navigating legislation and regulatory databases relevant to the food sector.
