Course Program

  1. EVOLUTION OF PRODUCTION SYSTEMS:
    • From mass production to lean production;
    • Characteristics of lean production;
    • The pillars of lean production: JIT, TQM, and TCI.

  2. MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS PLANNING METHODS:
    • Material inventory management policies;
    • Management of materials with dependent demand;
    • Ordering criteria with calculated quantity: minimum unit cost and cost balancing.

  3. MANAGEMENT OF MATERIALS WITH INDEPENDENT DEMAND:
    • Economic Order Quantity: definition and determination of EOQ and EMQ;
    • ABC analysis for managing materials with independent demand;
    • Determination of reorder level and safety stock;
    • ROL-type and ROC-type criteria.

  4. PRINCIPLES OF TQM AND ITS EVOLUTION:
    • History of the concept of quality;
    • Objectives of the quality function;
    • Quality strategies and policies;
    • Tools and techniques of TQM;
    • Philosophy of TQM: Juran, Deming, Feigenbaum, Ishikawa, Crosby;
    • Notes on TCI.

  5. TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES OF TQM

    • Problem solving: methods and tools;
    • Brainstorming and benchmarking.

  6. JIT: TOWARDS ZERO-DEFECT PRODUCTION
    • Production and ordering kanban;
    • Calculation of the number of kanbans;
    • Effects of JIT on plant layout.

  7. PRODUCT AND SYSTEM CERTIFICATION
    • Corporate Quality Systems;
    • ISO 9001:2008 rules and related standards;
    • National and European quality bodies and organizations;
    • Quality awards in Italy and Europe.

  8. INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL
    • Basic statistical concepts;
    • Natural and accidental causes of variability;
    • Determinable causes of variability;
    • Mean or central tendency;
    • Range of variability and standard deviation;
    • Normal distribution;
    • Central limit theorem.

  9. THE SEVEN TOOLS FOR QUALITY :
    • Data collection sheets;

    • Correlation diagrams;
