Notes on the plastic deformation of a crystalline structure and on tensile-compression-torsion tests for the mechanical characterization of metallic materials.
Theory of plasticity: continuum mechanics, yield criteria, specialization of equations in the plastic field.
Methods for the solution of plastic deformation problems in metals.
The Finite Element Method (FEM).
Classification of plastic deformation processes.
Sheet metal forming processes: blanking, bending, deep drawing, non-conventional processes. For each process, there is going to be a review illustrating: a general description of the process, its main applications, stress and strain state, and forces necessary to perform the process.
Notes on bulk plastic deformation processes: forging, rolling, drawing, extrusion. For each process, a general description of the process will be provided, and the following will be examined: stress and strain state, forces and work necessary to perform the process, tools and materials, process defects.
Content of the exercises: the course includes numerical exercises supporting the topics developed in class and the use of software dedicated to the design of forming processes.
