Course Program

  • Current regulations regarding waste management, separate collection, and recycling of materials derived from waste. 
  • Types of waste. 
  • Waste management. 
  • Disposal through landfill, brief notes on landfill construction characteristics. 
  • Brief notes on incineration and energy recovery from waste and their environmental impact. 
  • Waste recycling. 
  • Separate collection. 
  • Separation of unsorted waste into partially homogeneous fractions, mechanical-biological treatment of waste. 
  • Recycling of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymeric materials. 
  • Recycling of metallic materials, with particular reference to steel, aluminum-based light alloys, and copper-based metallic materials. 
  • Reuse and recycling of glass. 
  • Recycling of paper, cardboard, and packaging. 
  • Recycling of debris from construction materials. 
  • Recycling of some special waste, including used car batteries. 
  • Treatment of the organic fraction of waste: composting.
