Structures Design
30263

Description
Course Program

Theory:
Building design: analysis of the main structural types for reinforced concrete (RC) buildings and steel buildings; analysis of Italian and European technical standards with particular focus on the design approach based on the principle of capacity design (hierarchy of resistances). Seismic design of RC frame buildings: structural layout; structural analysis; design and verification of the building's structural components: beams, columns, foundations, slabs, cantilevers, staircases.

Practical Exercises:
During the course, students develop the detailed design of an RC-framed residential building located in a seismic zone.
Practice lessons are provided on 3D structural modeling using the SAP2000 software, as well as on the sizing and layout of the structural components’ reinforcement detailing.
