Project Safety Compliant Plant Engineering and Operation

Description
Students work in small groups on projects for safety-compliant planning and operation for changing plant types, such as chemical plants. 

• Possible project focal points include 
- Preparation and assessment of safety reports pursuant to Article 9 of the Major Accidents Ordinance (in conjunction with Annex II), up to and including compliance with concentration values in the vicinity of the facility in the event of an operational malfunction in the legal and organisational context, including internal and external communication and cooperation (i.a. , alarm and hazard prevention plans as well as information obligations vis-à-vis the neighbourhood pursuant to Articles 10 et seq. of the Hazardous Incident Ordinance (Störfallverordnung)). 
- Preparation of risk assessments in accordance with the Operational Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV - Betriebssicherheitsverordnung 
- Preparation of explosion protection documents according to the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances (GefStoffV - Gefahrstoffverordnung) 

• Essential work steps (e.g.) 
- Determination of legislative boundary conditions (laws and regulations) 
- Collection of basic data (e.g. type of procedural processes, work equipment, site conditions, etc.) 
- Carrying out hazard and risk analyses as well as planning and evaluating countermeasures (e.g. using the PAAG/HAZOP method)  
- Consideration of best available techniques under economic aspects 
- Operational organisation (e.g. creation of operational procedures, procedural instructions)
