This course focuses specifically on the special features of the load-bearing capacity, design and structural construction of bridges in steel and steel composite construction as well as solid construction. The main topics are the selection of suitable load-bearing systems, the verification of load-bearing capacity and serviceability, and fatigue-resistant construction. Furthermore, manufacturing and assembly methods, auxiliary structures and the bearing of bridges are also covered.
