This course offers students the chance to gain practical experience with real-world data on issues that are crucial to modern societies. Those interested in public policy areas such as environmental sustainability, inequality and wellbeing, or public health challenges will find relevant content. The course is organized around a series of empirical projects that utilize carefully selected datasets and publicly accessible data. Each project guides students through a step-by-step investigative process using readily available software. Students will follow four possible tracks, depending on the case study: using a spreadsheet application like Excel or Google Sheets, or a programming language such as R or Python.
