Workshop and Metrology
AWMP 1001

Description
This module introduces the learner to the fundamentals of workshop practice and safety. The learner will gain practical experience in the design, manufacture and measurement of engineering parts. Learners will be introduced to the principles of dimensional and geometric tolerances along with surface finish requirements with emphasis on their importance with regards the assembly of engineering components.  

Introduction to safe working practices and familiarisation with a safe working environment.

Operation and use of metal cutting equipment: lathes, milling machines and pedestal drills.

Selection of correct cutting tools: for the production of specified components.

Selection of correct feed rates and speed rates for metal cutting operations.

Machine tool drive mechanisms.

The operation, calibration and use of precision measuring equipment.

Dimensional Tolerances, Limits and Fits, Tolerance Stack-up, Go & No-Go gauges.

Introduction to Geometric Tolerances.

Introduction to Surface Finish.
