Description
Objectives
The course provides the skills required for the study and the dimensioning of urban and sub-urban links. About a half of the course will be dedicated to the development of a project on one of the topics of the course

Course program
Radiowave propagation in urban environments: fast fading, slow fading, path loss, fading statistics. Material permittivity. Cohernece time, coherence distance. Hata-Hokumura Model. Fresnel Ellipsoids. Diffraction from a circular source. Diffraction from a metallic Edge. Solution by means of GTD and UTD. Ray tracing algorithms. Electromagnetic coverage. Introduction to antennas for communication in complex environments: adaptive antennas, intelligent antennas, MIMO communication systems. Characterization of a MIMO channel. MIMO Channel capacity.
