DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
93368

Description
Objectives
The course presents the main techniques for data transmission and coding adopted in digital communication systems.

Course program
Digital modulations and their performance in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. Coding for reliable communication: random coding and channel capacity, linear block codes (generator matrix, parity check matrix, input-output weight enumeration function, hard decoding, soft decoding, Hamming code, maximum length code, Hadamard code, Reed-Muller code, cyclic codes, bounds on the word and bit error probability), convolutional codes (time domain generator matrix, connection vectors, transform domain generator matrix, tree diagram, state diagram, trellis diagram, catastrophic encoder, systematic encoder, transfer function, Viterbi algorithm for hard and soft decoding, examples of maximum free distance codes). Digital transmission over fading channels. MIMO Comunication: space diversity, multiplexing, space-time coding. Spectrum sharing between communication systems and radar.
